For this evaluation, I slept on the Saatva Classic…Switched From Winkbeds To Saatva …the Loom & Leaf, and the Zenhaven bed mattress for several weeks in my own house. These bed mattress were also evaluated in our group tests carried out for Wirecutter’s guides to the best foam mattresses and the best innerspring bed mattress. As Wirecutter’s senior staff author for sleep, I’ve interviewed ratings of professionals in the bed mattress market and in products science; visited lots of mattress showrooms, shops, and factories; and pored over the fine print on specs, service warranties, and return policies. We haven’t yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “environment-friendly” brands. However we do know that the business utilizes thistle pulp or organic wool as a flame retardant (as opposed to chemicals or fiberglass) and just natural cotton (instead of synthetic blends) in its covers. As do other online mattress business, Saatva promotes such bonus as zoned layers for “optimal spinal column support”; we’re less pleased with those features and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive customer support and resilient foams and coils.
